His main areas of research were fuel cells and transparent conductive oxides. During this time he completed a one-year ERASMUS study in combination with a research internship in the field of rechargeable Li-Ion batteries at the Ecole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure de Chimie et de Physique de Bordeaux in France.<\/p>\n<p>Within the context of his dissertation, Robert Schafranek developed passive controllable components for microwave technology in cooperation with the Institute of Microwave Technology. Furthermore, within a European research cooperation, he researched component-relevant interface properties of these microwave components.<\/p>\n<p>At Fujitsu Labs Robert Schafranek was able to develop novel material systems for thermoelectric microgenerators funded via a research prize donated by the Japanese National Institute of Information and Communication Technology.<\/p>\n<p>After a research stay at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the field of novel, fast switching transistors funded by the Office of Naval Research, Robert Schafranek set up a research cluster in Bordeaux for the preparation and investigation of the material and interface properties of (an)organic electronic components.
